Getting ready for inspection

This week has moved at a fast and furious pace.  imagine holiday fireworks that begin with one magnificent burst of color after another, and then evolving into an explosion of spectacular colors and shapes in quick succession.  We began the week with the laying of floor tiles – everywhere! And while the floor tiles were being installed, Kait was busy laying bathroom tiles, the plumber was connecting sinks, the finish carpenter was hanging doors, the mason was fixing the sidewalk, electricians were hanging lights, and the list goes on and on and on.  There was so much great construction work going on at the same time, that it was exhausting just to watch!  Progress was made from one hour to the next, and by the end of each day it was easy to see what exactly had been accomplished.

PECO showed up on Tuesday, as promised, and replaced the transformer to accommodate our much greater electricity needs.  it was a little bit hairy at first, as the first new transformer exploded shortly after it was installed.  The neighborhood lost power, we lost some time, but within a very reasonable amount of time, a second new transformer was hooked up and running great. (Go, PECO!)

Wednesday was “one of those days”, which we really haven’t had many of (thank goodness) … but two days before a scheduled inspection is just not good timing! There was one glitch after another, yet Kait managed to continue to make lemonade from lemons, although it was exceedingly difficult as the day went on… and on… and on (ha!)  Today, with a torrential downpour, it was dreary and uncomfortable, but so much was accomplished in preparation for our inspection.  We now have toilets, sinks, floors, doors, and lights – everywhere.  “Today” has just turned into “tomorrow” (12:01 am) and Kait and Akil (finish carpenter) are still on site working through Kait’s punch list of all that needs to be ready for our inspection in the late morning.  They will undoubtedly work late into the night, only to return first thing in the morning to be sure to get the job done.  I feel very grateful.

Prior to inspection, we need to have all of our signed certifications from all of our contractors: HVAC, Electric, Plumbing, Sprinkler System, Fire Alarm & Security System… (not sure who else???) so YCCAon2 will be all abuzz in the morning, for sure.  I will keep you posted, so be sure to check in throughout the day for updates.
